The Antonov An-148 is a regional jet airliner developed by the Ukrainian aircraft manufacturer Antonov. First flying in 2004, this twin-engine aircraft was designed to fill the gap between smaller regional turboprops and larger mainline jets. It features a modern glass cockpit, comfortable seating for up to 80 passengers in a single-deck configuration, and reliable Rolls-Royce engines. The aircraft offers excellent fuel efficiency and economics for regional routes, with a range suitable for operations across Eastern Europe, the former Soviet states, and beyond. The An-148 has been operated by numerous airlines including Ukrainian carriers, regional operators in Russia and the CIS nations, and various charter companies. Known for its robustness and ability to operate from less-developed airfields, the An-148 represents a practical solution for regional connectivity. Production has been primarily concentrated in Ukraine and Russia, with some aircraft also built under license. The design incorporates lessons from earlier Antonov successes while incorporating modern avionics and passenger amenities suitable for the regional jet market.
